World Ranking
5:33 PM

There is only four Malaysian Universities that had submitted the worlds ranking for 2014/2015. However the the better universities, UM and UKM had not submitted. Thus none of the Malaysian universities are ranked to even the top 400 universities in the world.
UM VC said that the reasons were:
1. UM has not completed building up the publication lists.
2. It has poor financial standing.
The main issues are, Malaysian Universities score very low scores in the reputation and citations.
These two criteria are heavily weighted.
The new ranking was released in Sept 2014 and non of the Malaysian Universities were even in the top 400.
The ranking were based on 13 elements across 5 categories , which are
- industrial outcomes
- teaching
- research
- citation
- international outlook.
The top rank are:
- California Inst of Technology.
- Harvard
- Oxford
- Stanford
- Cambridge
- Massachusetts Inst of Technology
- Princeton

3. To support life long learning
4. To reach to the massive population
To get it started, four IPTA..., UPM, UKM, UiTM and UniMAS Sarawak will be implementing four compulsory courses. The courses are:
a. Islamic and Asian Civilization.
b. Ethic Relationship
c. Entrepreneurship
d. ICT competency.
We hope the project will be successful, unlike the previous projects such as the Smart School and School based Assessment.

Malaysian Universities Require a Pass in English
8:00 AM

The Minister of Education had made a surprised announcement, the students of Malaysian Public Universities are required to pass the English Language.
This seem to be the series of Changes attempted by the government, some were aborted within a short period of less than 2 years while some may fizzle after some time. The examples are plenty, such as the SMART School and the teaching of Science and Mathematics in English. The latest was the School Based Assessment.
..
Currently, the students have to pass 3 compulsory subjects, BM, Malaysian Studies and Islamic Paper. When the new required gets its approval, the students have to pass the four subjects.
The announcement was received with apprehension by some groups. They are concerned about how the new directive will be implemented and whether it will a burden to the students

It was reported that the Malaysian Private Universities are pinching senior lecturers at the public universities enticing them by offering bigger money with lesser work load.
These are some of the examples:
1. The USM campus in Kubang Kerian in Kelantan is the worst hit. Thirty eight senior lecturer had left the school in the last six months.
2. University Malaya lost 21 clinical lecturers in the last 12 months.
The universities have to maintain certain students to lecturer ratio, 1: 4 for clinical and 1:6 for non clinical lecturers.
